Education Highlights 2016 BICSI Fall Conference

For the first time in 20 years, BICSI, the association advancing the information and communications technology (ICT) community, hosted its annual Fall Conference in the beautiful city of San Antonio, Texas. Beginning Sunday, September 11, BICSI welcomed industry professionals from all over the world to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

BICSI President Brian Ensign, RCDD, NTS, OSP, RTPM, CSI, officially opened the conference Tuesday morning, highlighting conference activities and noting some of BICSI’s latest educational releases, including the new Telecommunications Project Management Manual (TPMM) and the Project Management and Workplace Safety Series of online courses available via BICSI CONNECT.

“Education is—and will always remain—BICSI’s number one priority,” said Ensign. “The release of new and relevant manuals and curriculum ensure that BICSI and its members and credential holders remain at the forefront of the ICT industry. It is essential that we keep up with the ever-changing nature of our craft.”

Following Ensign’s opening remarks, Vinh Giang delivered a highly engaging Opening Keynote presentation. While in his 20s, Giang and two of his friends decided to pursue their dream of building a successful business and launched Encyclopedia of Magic, a hugely successful website that teaches tricks to aspiring magicians. Giang’s mission in business and life is to share the psychology of illusion. During his presentation, he imparted three key business ideas and demonstrated them using the art of magic with on-stage audience participation.

Tuesday’s General Session continued with educational presentations on digital building infrastructure; high-power Power over Ethernet (PoE); government relations; and the changes to the 2017 National Electric Code® (NEC®).

Attendees have been pleased with their conference experience. “This is my first BICSI conference, and it’s interesting to see all the different technologies in person versus in catalogs,” said Joshua Charfauros of Combs Consulting Group in San Antonio, Texas. “I’m very impressed with this Exhibit Hall!”

The Exhibit Hall opened Monday evening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which included a performance from Mariachi Las Alteñas, Texas’ finest all-female mariachi. The Exhibit Hall was full of activity, as more than 120 exhibitors spoke to excited attendees about the latest products and solutions that will help them in their careers.
